# PubMed / NCBI E-utilities integration

> Search and retrieve biomedical literature, sequences, genes, and other records from NCBI's 38 Entrez databases including PubMed (36M+ citations), PMC, Gene, Nucleotide, and Protein.

## Tools (9)

- **Fetch Full Records (EFetch)**: Download full formatted records — PubMed abstracts in XML or MEDLINE text, FASTA/GenBank sequences, etc. — for a list of UIDs.
- **Find Related or Linked Records (ELink)**: Find records linked to a set of UIDs — related articles, gene-to-protein, PubMed-to-PMC full text, citations, outbound LinkOut URLs.
- **Get Database Info (EInfo)**: List all Entrez databases, or return statistics, last-update date, indexed search fields, and link names for one database.
- **Get Document Summaries (ESummary)**: Return brief document summaries (DocSums) for a list of UIDs — title, authors, journal, dates, identifiers — without fetching the full record.
- **Global Search Across Databases (EGQuery)**: Run a single Entrez query against every NCBI database at once and return per-database result counts.
- **Look Up PMIDs by Citation (ECitMatch)**: Resolve one or more bibliographic citation strings (journal, year, volume, page, author) to PubMed PMIDs in a single call.
- **Post UIDs to History (EPost)**: Upload a list of UIDs to the Entrez History server so subsequent ESummary/EFetch/ELink calls can reference them via WebEnv and query_key.
- **Search Database (ESearch)**: Run an Entrez text query against any NCBI database (PubMed, PMC, Gene, Nucleotide, etc.) and return matching UIDs.
- **Spell-Check Query (ESpell)**: Get spelling suggestions for a search term against a specific Entrez database's index.
