# Chat files open in the side panel beside the conversation

> On a wide enough screen, a file you click in a chat now opens in the right side panel, so you can read it and keep the conversation going.

Clicking a file in a conversation with a specialist used to cover the whole screen. On a desktop window wide enough for the chat's side panel, it now opens there, where workflows, apps, and skills already preview, so you can read a report or check a spreadsheet while you keep talking.

### How it works

- **Every file in the chat.** Files you attach, files the specialist delivers, images in the transcript, and the Inputs and Outputs lists in the side panel all open in the panel.
- **A page made for a narrow panel.** Reports and markdown read edge to edge, Word documents reflow to the panel's width instead of shrinking, and PDF pages and images sit on a light canvas.
- **PowerPoint shows real slides.** Decks render with their layouts, colors, shapes, images, tables, and charts, where they used to show only their text.
- **Code reads like code.** Source files show line numbers and syntax colors and scroll sideways instead of wrapping, here and in the [full-screen file viewer](/changelog/2026-09-14-file-viewer). Spreadsheets right-align their figures.
- **A lighter full-screen viewer.** Full screen floats the file over a frosted view of the app instead of a black screen, with images, pages, and slides on soft shadows and documents on a white sheet.
- **Narrow windows keep full screen.** On a phone or a small window, files still open full screen.

### Also shipped

- **One viewer for every file.** A specialist's files, storage, memory uploads, and the files a workflow run used or produced now open in the viewer instead of downloading, and run files do in the iPhone app too. Download is still one click away.
