# Shortlist social amplifiers who actually share your topic

> Search any topic, see who has real reach, read what each person genuinely shared before you pitch, and keep every name in one outreach tracker.

- Workflow type: app
- Services: BuzzSumo, HubSpot, Slack
- Categories: Marketing, Sales
- Published: 2026-08-16

## What it does

- Search a keyword, topic, or domain and get a ranked table of social amplifiers with their reach, engagement, and authority scores.
- Open anyone's profile to read the links they actually shared recently, so you pitch people genuinely covering your subject instead of trusting follower counts.
- Tick the people worth pitching and add them to HubSpot in one press: anyone you have already contacted is skipped, the rest arrive tagged with the topic and the sites they share most, and you get a follow-up task.
- Keep every name in a shortlist marked Shortlisted, Pitched, or Passed, so it works as an ongoing outreach tracker across campaigns and posts a Slack recap when you finish a session.

## What you'll need

- A BuzzSumo account on a paid plan, since search access is not included in free trials
- A HubSpot login where you track contacts and tasks
- A Slack workspace, if you want end of session summaries posted to a channel
- Worth knowing before you start: BuzzSumo's amplifier data comes from Twitter profiles, so it rarely includes email addresses. Expect those to come from HubSpot or your own research.

## Prompt

I want an app for planning content amplification and PR outreach. I search a topic and build a shortlist of social amplifiers who are genuinely worth pitching, push the good ones into HubSpot, and track what happened to each one across campaigns.

The main screen is a search panel over BuzzSumo Search Influencers. I type a keyword, topic, or domain and press Search. Searching must only ever happen on an explicit button press, never automatically on page load, while I am typing, or when I revisit a topic. BuzzSumo paid plans include only about 100 search calls per month, so cache the results of every search against the topic string, show cached results instantly when I come back to that topic along with the date they were fetched, and give me a Refresh button if I decide it is worth spending another call. Warn me before re-running a search I already have cached.

Results render as a ranked table with one row per amplifier: name, Twitter handle, bio, followers and reach, engagement metrics, and the authority or influence scores BuzzSumo returns. Let me sort by any of those columns and filter out accounts below a follower or engagement threshold I set. Do not call any per-person operation while building this table.

Clicking a row opens a profile drawer, and only then does the app call BuzzSumo Get Links Shared by Influencer for that one person. This is the entire point of the app: I need to read what someone actually shared recently before deciding whether to pitch them, because follower counts on their own are misleading. Show the recent links with titles, domains, dates, and engagement, and summarize the domains they share most often. Cache each person's shared links as well, so opening the same drawer twice does not spend another call.

From the drawer and from the table I can set a status on each person, and that shortlist persists per user across sessions: Shortlisted, Pitched, or Passed. Keep the topic they were found under, the date I added them, and a free text notes field on every entry. Give me a separate Shortlist view where I can see everyone I have saved across all topics, filter by status and topic, and pick a campaign back up weeks later. This is meant to be an ongoing outreach tracker rather than a throwaway search.

When I tick people in the table and press Add to CRM, run this sequence. First call HubSpot Search Contacts to check whether each person already exists, so I never duplicate or re-pitch someone we have already contacted. Show me clearly which names were skipped as existing contacts, with links to their HubSpot records. Then add the remainder with HubSpot Batch Upsert Contacts, or HubSpot Create Contact for a single addition, carrying the topic they were found under and their top shared domains as contact properties alongside their name, Twitter handle, and profile URL. Finally create one follow-up task for me with HubSpot Create Task, listing who was added and under which topic, due a few days out.

Be careful with contact matching. BuzzSumo returns Twitter profiles and almost never returns an email address, so do not assume every person has one and never invent one. Where an email is already known, either because HubSpot Search Contacts matched them or because I typed one in myself, key the upsert on that email. Where there is no email, create the contact from name and Twitter handle and flag it in the app as needing contact details. The shortlist should show me at a glance which people still have no email, so I know who needs manual research.

When I finish a session there is an End session and post summary action that sends a Slack message using Send a Message to a channel I choose, summarizing who was added, under which topic, how many were skipped as existing contacts, and what is still outstanding.

Throughout the app, present these people honestly as social amplifiers and creators rather than journalists or press contacts. The BuzzSumo influencer data is Twitter based, and there is no journalist or media database lookup available, so do not build or imply any journalist search feature. State plainly in the interface that email addresses will usually need to come from HubSpot or from my own research rather than from BuzzSumo.

## How to customize

- Set the minimum follower or engagement level a person needs before they show up in the results table.
- Choose which HubSpot properties carry the topic and top shared sites, and who the follow-up task gets assigned to.
- Point the end of session summary at whichever Slack channel your PR or content team works out of.

## FAQ

### Does this find journalists or media contacts?

No. The amplifier data behind this app is built on Twitter profiles, so it surfaces creators, commentators, and people who actively share content in your topic area. It is not a media or journalist database, and you should not expect newsroom or press contacts from it.

### Will I get email addresses for the people it finds?

Usually not. Most amplifier profiles have no email attached. The app checks HubSpot first, so anyone already in your CRM keeps their existing email, and everyone else is added with their name, handle, and profile link, clearly flagged so you know who still needs contact details found manually.

### Will this burn through my BuzzSumo search allowance?

Searches only run when you press the button, never automatically, and results are cached per topic so revisiting a shortlist costs nothing. Paid BuzzSumo plans include a limited number of searches each month, so the app is deliberately built to spend them one press at a time.

### Will it create duplicate contacts in HubSpot?

No. Before adding anyone, the app checks your existing contacts and skips people you have already pitched, then shows you exactly which names were skipped and links to their existing records.

### Can several people on my team use it at once?

Yes. Each person gets their own shortlist and their own statuses, so separate campaigns do not overwrite one another.

### Why read what someone shared instead of just sorting by followers?

Because follower counts on their own are misleading. Someone with a big audience who has not touched your subject in months is a worse pitch than a smaller account sharing it every week, and the profile view exists so you can tell those two apart before you spend a pitch.
