# Turn Algolia no-results searches into Notion content briefs

> Every Monday, catch the searches customers ran that returned nothing and drop a written content brief for each new gap into your Notion backlog.

- Workflow type: agent
- Services: Algolia, Notion
- Categories: Marketing
- Published: 2026-07-17

## What it does

- Pulls the top searches on your site that came back empty over the past week
- Looks up your main catalog index to see what was close but not matching, so each brief has real context
- Drafts a content brief per query covering why customers are asking, what to write, target keywords, and any similar items you already have
- Checks your Notion backlog for an existing brief on that query and adds only the new ones, capped at ten per run

## What you'll need

- An Algolia account with search analytics on and your main catalog index
- A Notion workspace with a Content backlog database
- Your Notion connection shared with that database so we can read and write pages

## Prompt

Every Monday at 8am, pull my top no-results searches from Algolia for the last 7 days using the Analytics: Top Searches with No Results operation. Cap the run at the top 10 queries so the backlog stays manageable.

For each of those top 10 queries, run Search Single Index against my main catalog index to see what records are close but not matching. The near-misses are the useful context for why customers might have been searching and what related items already exist.

Then, using your judgment, draft a content brief the marketing team can pick up. Each brief should include the exact query, why users are likely asking for it (intent and likely use case), a suggested article or category page to create, a short list of target keywords, and any similar existing items in the catalog that could be linked, expanded, or reused.

Before filing each brief, run Query a Database on my Notion Content backlog database, filtering by the query text, to check whether a brief for that query already exists. If one exists, skip that query. If not, use Create a Page in the Content backlog database with the drafted brief as the page content and the query as the page title.

Finish with a short summary of which queries got new briefs, which were skipped as duplicates already in the backlog, and any queries with unusually high no-result counts that stood out.

## How to customize

- Change the schedule or the lookback window; the default is Monday at 8am covering the past seven days
- Raise or lower the cap on how many briefs get filed per run
- Point the workflow at a different Algolia index or a different Notion database

## FAQ

### What counts as a no-results search?

Any query a customer typed into your Algolia-powered search that returned zero matching records. Algolia surfaces these directly in its analytics.

### Why cap it at ten briefs a week?

Content teams cannot ship fifty articles at once. Focusing on the top ten recurring gaps keeps the backlog realistic and prioritized so the highest-value pages get written first.

### Will duplicate briefs get filed if the same query keeps coming up?

No. Before writing a page, the workflow checks your Content backlog database for an existing brief on that query and skips it if one is already there.

### Does my Notion database need specific columns?

We recommend a column for the query text, a status column, and a place for the drafted brief. Column names can be adjusted when you set up the workflow.

### Does this work on any Algolia plan?

Analytics availability varies by plan. If you can see Top Searches with No Results in your Algolia dashboard, this workflow can read the same data.
