# Weekly social media performance brief in Notion and Slack

> Every Monday, turn last week's social numbers into a written brief that explains what worked, what flopped, and what to do more of next week.

- Workflow type: agent
- Services: Hootsuite, Notion, Slack Bot
- Categories: Marketing
- Published: 2026-08-07

## What it does

- Every Monday morning, pulls last week's numbers for every social account connected to your Hootsuite workspace.
- Calls out the three best and three worst performing posts, and explains what the winners had in common: format, topic, and time of day.
- Shows how each account moved week over week on followers and engagement, rather than reporting one flat number.
- Saves the finished brief as a new page in your Notion reporting database and posts the headline numbers plus a link into your marketing channel in Slack.

## What you'll need

- A Hootsuite account with your social profiles connected, on a plan that includes Advanced Analytics
- A Notion workspace with a database where the weekly briefs should be filed
- A Slack workspace and the channel your marketing team reads

## Prompt

Every Monday at 8am, write my social team's weekly performance brief from Hootsuite Analytics, publish it to Notion, and post the headline numbers into Slack.

Start with the Hootsuite Retrieve Social Profiles operation to get every social account connected to the workspace. Then pull the last seven days of data for those accounts: use List Posts and Metrics for the posts published in that window, and use List Profiles and Metrics for the daily follower and engagement trend. Also pull the seven days before that window so you can calculate week over week movement.

Two Hootsuite constraints to respect when querying analytics. Analytics requests accept at most 10 social profile IDs per request, so batch the accounts into groups of 10 rather than requesting all of them at once, and combine the results before analyzing. Analytics data older than two years is not available, so keep every request inside that window.

Analyze what actually moved rather than dumping numbers. Identify the three best and three worst performing posts by engagement. For the three winners, work out what they had in common across format (image, video, carousel, text, link), topic, and time of day, and say so explicitly. For each account, compare this week to the previous week and state whether followers and engagement went up or down and by how much. If nothing was published in the window, still report the follower and engagement trend and say plainly that there was no new content to analyze.

End the brief with a plain recommendation of what to do more of next week, stated as a concrete action rather than an observation. The brief should end with an action, not a chart.

Publish the finished brief using the Notion Create a Page operation, as a new page in our social reporting database, titled with the week's date range. Structure it as: headline numbers, top three posts, bottom three posts, what the winners had in common, per-account week over week movement, and the recommendation.

Then use the Slack Bot Send a Message operation to post into our marketing channel: the headline numbers (total posts, total engagement, follower change, and the week over week direction) plus a link to the Notion page. Keep the Slack message short enough to read without expanding it, and let the Notion page carry the detail.

## How to customize

- Change when it runs. Monday at 8am is a starting point so the brief is waiting before the week begins, but any day and frequency works.
- Change what gets called out. Three best and three worst is the default, and you can rank by reach or clicks instead of engagement.
- Change where it lands. Point it at a different Notion database, a different Slack channel, or send it as a direct message to the social lead.

## Example output

Social recap, Aug 3 to Aug 9

12 posts, 41.2k impressions, 3,180 engagements (up 18% week over week)
Followers: +412 across 5 accounts

Top post: the customer story carousel on LinkedIn (Tue 9am), 1,240 engagements, about 3x our weekly average.
What the winners had in common: all three were carousels, all posted before 10am, all midweek.
Weakest: the three link-only posts pushed out Friday afternoon.

Do more of next week: customer stories in carousel format, published Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Move link drops off Friday.

## FAQ

### Do I need a paid Hootsuite plan for this?

Yes. This brief reads Hootsuite Analytics, which is available on plans that include the Advanced Analytics add-on. If your plan only covers scheduling and publishing, the post and follower numbers will not be available to pull.

### How many social accounts can it cover?

As many as you have connected. Hootsuite limits how many accounts can be asked about at one time, so the brief automatically works through your accounts in batches and combines the results into a single report.

### Can I run it on a different day or time?

Yes. Monday at 8am is just the default so the brief is ready before the week starts. You can move it to any day and time, or run it every two weeks instead.

### What happens if we did not post anything last week?

The brief still runs. It reports the follower and engagement trend for each account and says plainly that there was no new content to analyze, instead of failing or sending an empty report.

### Does it work with Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and Facebook?

It covers whichever profiles are connected to your Hootsuite account. The exact numbers available for each one depend on what that network reports back to Hootsuite.

### How far back can it look?

The brief compares last week to the week before, which is well within range. Hootsuite keeps analytics data available for two years, so longer historical comparisons are possible up to that limit.
