Real-time sync across web and iPhone with one sync engine
The dashboard and the iPhone app held the same lists (specialists, Home, Activity, conversations, resource cards, pins, badges) in about a dozen separate caches, and every send, stop, read, and live event had to remember to update each one. When one was missed, a specialist looked idle while it worked, or a finished run still looked busy. Both apps now draw every list from one sync engine per workspace, kept in step by a server change feed.
How it works
- A numbered change feed. For each member, the server rebuilds what their lists show, records what changed under a sequence number, and clients pull everything past the number they have, with live updates in between. It follows Replicache's client-view approach.
- Your actions draw at once. Sends, stops, reads, pins, renames, and moves appear immediately and stay put until the server confirms them; only a refusal undoes one.
- Opens already drawn. The iPhone keeps the engine on the device and each browser tab keeps a copy locally, so the app draws before any network response.
- Force-quit included. When a push arrives, the iPhone fetches changes in the background, so even a force-quit app opens with the right run status.
- Shared resources follow. A change to a shared workflow or specialist reaches everyone whose lists show it, within about two seconds.
- Tested hard. A lifecycle harness runs 300 randomized sessions against a fake iPhone and a network that delivers answers in any order.
