Order your web search providers and turn off built-ins

Every workspace now has a Built-in services page in Settings. Admins can turn off any service General Input runs for your agents, workflows, and apps, such as image generation, email sending, or web search, and set the order in which providers search and read the web for you. If your team trusts Exa more than Octen, put Exa first. We also added Octen and Perplexity as search providers, and searches now favor fresh results. You pay in credits for whichever provider answers; see pricing.

How it works

  • Search tries providers in order. The new default starts with Octen, then Exa, then Perplexity, the best result quality for the price on the Artificial Analysis search benchmark, followed by Parallel and Tavily. A search moves on only when a provider fails, so it still gets answered when several are down.
  • Reading a page works the same way. Pages are fetched through ScrapingBee first, then Octen and Exa. A fetch that needs a chosen country, rendered JavaScript, or raw HTML goes only to a provider that can do it, so you never get a price in the wrong currency.
  • Recent results come first. Agents can limit a search to the past day, week, month, or year, every result now carries the date it was published, and a news search covers the past week unless it asks for more. Octen and Exa read pages as they are now, and for anything that changes by the minute, like a live score or a price, agents read the source itself, not a search result.
  • Turning a service off takes effect at once. Agents stop being offered it, and a workflow or app that calls it gets a message saying an admin turned it off.
