Apps open ready to use and show your last results
Every app you build runs its handlers on a machine that starts when someone needs it. Until now, opening an app whose machine had stopped covered the page with a spinner until it was ready, even though the app had already loaded underneath. That cover is gone on the web and in the mobile app. An app now opens as soon as its page loads, and you can use it right away while its machine starts in the background. When you come back to an app, the results from your last visit appear straight away and update on their own when the new ones arrive.
How it works
- No more starting spinner. Anything that needs the machine waits for it to start, usually about three seconds, as part of that one action. You see the app's own loading state, and the status dot in the app's address bar still shows when it is starting.
- Your last results, instantly. Saved results stay fresh for 15 minutes. For seven days after that, they show at once while the app fetches new ones, instead of a blank loading state.
- Never from before your own changes. Saving something in the app or publishing a new build clears saved results, so nobody sees data from before that change.
- Failures still show. If new results cannot be loaded, the app reports the error instead of quietly leaving old data on screen.
- Your existing apps too. The spinner is gone for every app now. Instant last results reach existing apps on their own, as each one is quietly rebuilt in the background with nothing about it changed. An app someone is using waits until it goes quiet.
