Daily 7am interview prep briefs in Google Docs
Every morning at 7am, scan your calendar for the next three days of interviews and generate a one-page prep brief in Google Docs for each one.
Every morning at 7am, run an agent that prepares me for upcoming job interviews on my Google Calendar and drops a prep brief in Google Docs for each one.
Step 1. Use Google Calendar List Events to pull events on my primary calendar for the next three days. Keep only events whose title or description looks like a job interview or phone screen (words like interview, phone screen, onsite, recruiter chat, hiring manager). For each kept event, extract the company name and the role I am interviewing for from the title or description. If either is unclear, skip that event and note it in the final response.
Step 2. Skip anything already briefed. For each remaining event, look for an existing Google Doc whose title matches the convention Interview prep, then company name, then interview date (YYYY-MM-DD). If a matching doc already exists, skip that event so recurring 7am runs do not duplicate work. Do this by listing my recent Google Docs and matching on title.
Step 3. For each interview that needs a brief, gather context from JSearch:
Call JSearch Search Jobs with a query like "<role> at <company>" to find the actual posting at that company. Pick the best-matching result and grab requirements, apply link, and location.
Call JSearch Get Company Job Salary with the role and company (and location when available) to get typical pay at that specific company.
Call JSearch Estimate Salary with the role and location to get a market pay band for comparison.
Call JSearch Get Job Details on the best-matching posting id to pull the richer employer profile, benefits, and similar-role salaries.
Step 4. Write the prep brief. Use Google Docs Create Document to make a new doc titled "Interview prep — <Company> — <YYYY-MM-DD>" using the interview date from the calendar event. Then use Google Docs Batch Update Document to fill it with these sections:
Role summary and requirements pulled from the posting.
Salary picture: company-specific pay for the role vs the market estimate for the location, with any similar-role data from Get Job Details.
Company snapshot: what the employer does, size or industry cues, and any notable benefits or culture signals from the posting.
What to ask them: five to seven thoughtful questions grounded in the specific requirements and company details from the posting (not generic filler).
Apply link and posting URL if found, plus the calendar event details (interviewer names, time, location or meeting link).
Step 5. Handle gaps gracefully. If Search Jobs returns no confident match at that company, still create the brief using the Estimate Salary market band and note that the exact posting was not found. Never invent facts about the company or the role.
Step 6. In the final response, list each interview handled with the company, the interview date and time, and the Google Doc URL. Also list any events that were skipped (already briefed, or company/role could not be extracted) so I can spot-check.
Additional information
What does this prompt do?
- Every morning at 7am, checks your Google Calendar for the next three days and picks out anything that looks like a job interview or phone screen.
- For each interview, pulls the real job posting, typical pay for that role at that company, and a market salary band for the location.
- Writes a one-page Google Doc prep brief per interview with the role summary, salary picture, company snapshot, questions to ask, and the apply link.
- Skips interviews you already have a brief for, so recurring 7am runs never duplicate work.
What do I need to use this?
- A Google account with Calendar and Docs access.
- A JSearch account for job postings and salary data.
- Your calendar events named clearly enough that an interview looks like one (title or description mentioning interview, phone screen, or the company name).
How can I customize it?
- Change the run time from 7am to whenever you start your day.
- Widen or narrow the lookahead window (three days is the default, one day or a full week both work).
- Adjust what counts as an interview if your calendar uses different words like screen, chat, or onsite.
- Tweak the brief sections, for example add a compensation negotiation cheat sheet or drop the salary section entirely.
