Every Tuesday at 8am, draft next week's recipe newsletter for me in Mailchimp with a shoppable Instacart link already built into it. Leave it as a draft for me to review. Never send it.

Start in Notion. Use Query a Data Source against my recipe library to find recipes tagged to the current season, working out the current season from today's date. Exclude anything whose last featured date falls within the last 90 days, and treat recipes that have never been featured as eligible. From what comes back, pick the single recipe that best fits the season and my audience, and be ready to tell me in one line why you picked that one.

Send that recipe's ingredients, instructions, servings, and cook time to Instacart Create Recipe Page to generate a shoppable page where readers pick their own store and add every ingredient to a cart in one click. Ingredient quantities go in the measurements field, and Instacart accepts only a limited unit set: each, lb, oz, g, kg, ml, L, cup, tbsp, tsp, gallon. Convert anything outside that set before sending, so a stick of butter becomes 0.5 cup and a pinch becomes a small tsp amount, and fall back to each when a unit does not translate cleanly. Set expires_in close to the 365 day maximum, because newsletter archives stay live and a dead shopping link in an old issue looks bad. Keep the products_link_url that comes back, because that is the link everything else points at.

Draft the newsletter around that recipe. I want two subject line options, preview text, a short intro on why this recipe right now (the season, what is good at the market, why my readers will care), the recipe itself with ingredients, instructions, servings, and cook time, and a clear shop the ingredients call to action pointing at the Instacart link. Match the voice and structure of my recent issues.

Then create the campaign in Mailchimp with Create Campaign against my newsletter audience, using the stronger of the two subject lines plus the preview text, and load the drafted HTML with Set Campaign Content. Mailchimp only holds one subject line, so put the second option at the very top of the email body inside a clearly marked reviewer note along with your one line rationale for the recipe pick, and tell me to delete that note before sending.

Finally, go back to Notion and use Update a Page on that recipe to mark it featured: set the featured status, set the last featured date to today, and store the Instacart link on the page so the same link gets reused next time instead of regenerated. That write-back combined with the 90 day filter is what keeps the rotation honest across runs.

Never send the campaign automatically. Do not call Send Campaign under any circumstances. Create Campaign leaves the campaign in save status, and that is exactly what I want: a draft that waits for me to review and send myself. Finish by telling me which recipe you picked and why, both subject line options, and the Instacart link.

Example output

Picked: Roasted Delicata Squash with Brown Butter and Sage (tagged Fall, last featured 14 months ago). It is peak squash season and your readers skew toward weeknight sides under 45 minutes. Subject line A: The squash that converted three squash skeptics Subject line B: 40 minutes, one pan, zero peeling Preview text: No peeling required, and the whole cart is one click away. Instacart page: https://www.instacart.com/store/recipes/... (live for 365 days) Mailchimp: campaign created against Weekly Recipes (4,812 subscribers), HTML loaded, sitting in draft. Not sent. Notion: page marked Featured, Last Featured set to today, Instacart link saved to the page.

Additional information

What does this prompt do?
  • Every Tuesday morning, picks a seasonal recipe from your Notion recipe library that you have not featured in the last 90 days
  • Builds a shoppable Instacart page for it, so readers pick their own store and add every ingredient to a cart in one click
  • Writes the whole issue: two subject line options, preview text, a short intro on why this recipe now, the recipe itself, and a shop the ingredients call to action
  • Leaves the campaign sitting in Mailchimp as a draft, and marks the recipe featured in Notion with today's date and the link
What do I need to use this?
  • A Notion recipe library where each recipe has a season tag, ingredients, instructions, servings, and cook time
  • An Instacart developer account, which is what creates the shoppable recipe pages
  • A Mailchimp account with the audience you send your newsletter to
How can I customize it?
  • Change the day and time. Tuesday at 8am gives you a few days to review before a weekend send, but any schedule works.
  • Adjust the 90 day no repeat window, or swap the season tag for a different filter like meal type, difficulty, or a specific collection.
  • Set how long the Instacart link stays live. A full year keeps the links in your archived issues working.

FAQs

Will it ever send the newsletter without me?
No. It only creates the draft and loads the content into it. Sending is a separate step that stays in your hands, so every issue waits in Mailchimp until you review it and hit send yourself.
How does it know which recipes are in season?
It reads the season tag on each recipe in your Notion library and matches it against the current date, then picks the one that best fits the season and your audience.
What stops the same recipe going out twice?
After each issue it marks that recipe as featured in Notion with the date, and skips anything featured in the last 90 days on the next run. The rotation stays honest without you tracking it.
Do my readers need an Instacart account to shop the recipe?
They land on a page where they choose a nearby store and add every ingredient to a cart at once, then check out through Instacart the way they normally would.
Can I edit the draft before it goes out?
Yes. It lands as a normal Mailchimp draft, so you can rewrite the copy, swap in the second subject line, or change the design in the editor before sending.
