Global headcount and workforce cost dashboard for Deel
See headcount and monthly spend side by side across every country, entity, and hiring type, then export the filtered view straight into your board deck.
Build me an interactive dashboard app that shows our global workforce cost and headcount from Deel. Our finance lead and COO open it at month end and before every budget review, so the goal is to replace the slide we currently rebuild by hand each month. This is an app people work in, not a report that gets emailed, so the landing view has to be immediately useful and everything on it has to be clickable.
Landing view: headcount and monthly cost sit side by side at the top as summary tiles (total headcount, total monthly cost in my reporting currency, average cost per person, number of countries and legal entities). Underneath, show breakdown panels by country, legal entity, hiring type, team, and department. Every breakdown row shows headcount and cost together, never one without the other, because the whole point is seeing where the money goes relative to where the people are.
Data sources. Build the roster from List People, using each person's country, team, department, and hiring type. Use List Contracts for contract terms, base rate, currency, and legal entity. Use List Legal Entities, List Teams, and List Departments as reference data so tiles and filters show real names instead of raw IDs. For cost, do not stop at contract base rates: pull Retrieve Invoices and List Invoice Adjustments so bonuses, expenses, commissions, and overtime land in the totals. Use List Contract Invoice Adjustments when drilling into a single contract, and Retrieve a Single Person for the person detail view.
Hiring type is a first-class dimension, not an afterthought filter. Deel mixes contractor, eor, peo, gp, and hris_direct_employee, and the split between them is one of the two things that makes this dashboard worth opening. Label them in plain language (Contractor, EOR, PEO, Global Payroll, Direct employee) and let me see cost per hiring type at a glance, since a team that quietly shifted from contractors to EOR is exactly the kind of change I need to catch.
Currency handling is the other thing that makes this useful rather than generic. We pay people in many currencies, so show every amount in both its original currency and a single reporting currency I choose from a picker. Pull the available currency list from Retrieve Lookups. Where Deel already returns a converted total on the invoice payload, prefer that. Where it does not, use an editable rate table I can maintain in a settings view, and always show which rate and date were applied so the numbers survive scrutiny in a board review. Never silently add up mixed currencies into one number.
Drilldown: every summary tile and every breakdown row is clickable and opens the underlying people and contracts behind that number, carrying the current filters through. The drilldown table should show person, country, legal entity, hiring type, team, contract type, base rate in original currency, adjustments, and total cost in the reporting currency. Clicking a row opens a detail drawer for that person and their contract.
Trend: show month over month cost and headcount for the last twelve months, so I can see where cost is growing and which teams added or lost people. Include the deltas in both absolute amount and percent, and surface the biggest movers (teams or countries with the largest cost increase and the largest headcount change) rather than making me read the whole chart.
Filters: country, legal entity, hiring type, currency, and team, and I need to be able to stack them so I can ask something like EOR employees in Germany under one entity. Filters apply consistently to the tiles, the breakdowns, the drilldowns, the trend, and the export. Remember my last used filters and reporting currency per user so the page opens where I left it.
Export: one button in the header, Export to Google Sheets, that writes the current filtered view to a spreadsheet tab I pick using Append Values. Include a header row noting the filters and reporting currency in effect so the numbers are self-explanatory when they land in the board deck. Keep this to a single secondary button. The value of this app is the interactive dashboard with drilldown and trend, and the export is just a convenience on top, so do not let the page read like a reporting workflow.
Practical notes: the people, contract, and invoice lists are org-wide and paginated, so fetch them server side, page through fully, and cache per session with a visible refresh button and a last updated timestamp for when I am working through month end. If a Deel read fails or comes back partial, say so on the affected tile rather than showing a total that is quietly wrong.
What does this prompt do?
- Shows total headcount and total monthly cost side by side, broken down by country, legal entity, hiring type, team, and department
- Counts real cost, not just base rates, by folding in bonuses, expenses, commissions, and other invoice line items
- Lets you click any number to see the exact people and contracts behind it, with a month over month trend showing where cost is growing and which teams added or lost people
- Stacks filters for country, entity, hiring type, currency, and team, and shows amounts in both the original currency and one reporting currency you pick
- Exports whatever you are currently looking at to a Google Sheets tab with one button
What do I need to use this?
- A Deel account with permission to view people, contracts, legal entities, and invoices
- A Google account with edit access to the spreadsheet you want to export into
- The reporting currency you want company-wide totals shown in, for example USD, EUR, or GBP
How can I customize it?
- Set the default reporting currency and choose which breakdowns appear on the landing view
- Decide which cost items count toward totals, such as bonuses, expenses, commissions, and overtime
- Choose how many months the trend covers, and which spreadsheet and tab the export writes to
