Investor update studio that builds your board deck monthly
Open one screen each month to see your real numbers, write the commentary yourself, and generate a board deck you can send to investors.
I am a founder and every month I rebuild the same investor update from scratch. Build me an app that is my board update studio: one place where the month's numbers, my own commentary and the finished board deck all live, plus an archive of every update I have ever sent.
The main screen has a month selector at the top, defaulting to the month that just ended. Under it sits a row of KPI tiles built from Stripe: active subscriptions and churned subscriptions from List Subscriptions, and cash collected from List Invoices together with List Balance Transactions. Next to those, pipeline tiles from HubSpot Search Deals: new deals created during the month, closed won value, and total open pipeline. Every tile shows the value for the selected month, the change against the previous month, and the change against the average of the prior three months, so I can tell whether a move is a real trend or just noise. That means fetching the surrounding months as well, not only the selected one.
Underneath the tiles are five editable commentary blocks: headline (one sentence), highlights, lowlights, asks and risks. The first time I open a month, pre-fill each block from the numbers as a starting draft, for example calling out the metric that moved most or the pipeline that shrank. Treat these as drafts only, because I always rewrite them by hand. Save every edit against that specific month so the commentary persists and is exactly as I left it when I come back, and never publish or send commentary I have not reviewed.
A Generate board deck button kicks off a background agent. The agent takes the final metrics for the selected month plus my edited commentary and assembles them into the same fixed section order every time: the one sentence headline, the operating metrics with their month over month and three month average comparisons, highlights, lowlights, board asks, risks, and what is coming next month. It then builds the deck in Gamma with Generate a Gamma. Gamma generation is asynchronous, so the agent must wait for the generation to complete rather than assuming the deck is ready, and it should save the Gamma document URL into the archive rather than a temporary export download link, since those expire after about a week. Gamma's API needs a paid plan (Pro, Ultra, Teams or Business). While the agent is running, show that month as generating in the app, and attach the deck link to it when the agent finishes.
The archive is the part I open most often, so give it real weight in the layout instead of burying it behind a tab. It is a list of every past month showing that month's headline, its key metrics, a link to its Gamma deck, and whether the update was sent. Include a trend view of the main KPIs across months, so I can see the shape of the business over the last year in one place. Let me click into any past month and read the full commentary exactly as it went out, because I always check what I told investors last time before I write this month.
From the archive, a Send to investors button emails the deck link to a saved distribution list using Gmail Send a Message. Keep that list editable inside the app, and show me the subject line and message body before anything goes out so I can adjust them. Once it sends, record the sent date and the recipients against that month in the archive.
Rules that matter to me: nothing generates and nothing sends without me pressing the button; the commentary is mine to edit while the metrics stay read only; month boundaries are calendar months in my own timezone so the comparisons line up; and when data for a month is missing or a tool is not connected, show the tile as unavailable rather than quietly reporting zero.
What does this prompt do?
- Pick a month and see your subscription, revenue and pipeline numbers side by side, each with the change against last month and against your prior three month average.
- Write the headline, highlights, lowlights, asks and risks yourself. Each block is pre-filled from the numbers as a starting draft and saved per month, so your words are still there when you come back.
- Press Generate board deck and a background assistant assembles the final metrics and your edited commentary into the same section order every month, then builds the deck in Gamma.
- Every past month lives in an archive with its deck link and a trend view of your key metrics, so you can read what you told investors last time before you write this one.
What do I need to use this?
- A Stripe account where your subscriptions and invoices live
- A HubSpot account where you track deals and pipeline
- A Gamma account on a paid plan (Pro, Ultra, Teams or Business), which is what lets outside apps create decks
- A Gmail account to send the finished deck link to your investor list
How can I customize it?
- Change which numbers get a tile, for example swap closed won value for average deal size or add a churn rate alongside it
- Rewrite the deck section order and wording so it matches the format your board already expects
- Edit your investor distribution list and the default subject and message that goes out with each deck link
