Recycle your best social posts into fresh scheduled ones
On the first Monday of each month, find the posts that actually performed, rewrite them with a new hook, and schedule them across the next four weeks.
On the first Monday of every month at 9am, recycle my best performing social content into fresh scheduled posts.
Start with Hootsuite Retrieve Social Profiles to get every social profile I have connected along with its network type. Then use Hootsuite List Posts and Metrics to pull published posts with lifetime engagement metrics for the last 90 days. Hootsuite analytics accepts at most 10 social profile IDs per request, so batch the profiles in groups of 10 and page through the results until you have the full set.
Rank the posts by engagement, but compare like with like. A post on one network is not directly comparable to a post on another, and a profile with a much larger following will always win on raw numbers, so score each post against the typical performance of its own profile instead of building one global leaderboard.
From the top of that ranking, pick the strongest handful, usually four to six, that are genuinely worth running again. Skip anything time sensitive: event promotion, launch announcements, seasonal or limited time offers, reactions to news, hiring posts for roles that are likely filled, and anything referencing a specific date, deadline, or figure that has since changed. If fewer than four posts clear the bar, schedule fewer. Do not pad the list to hit a number.
Before committing to anything, read the Airtable recycling log with Airtable List Records. Filter to entries from the last six months and drop any candidate whose original post already appears there. This log is what keeps a monthly run from recycling the same evergreen winner forever, so treat it as a hard gate rather than a suggestion.
Rewrite each remaining winner rather than reposting it. Keep the substance and the insight that made the original perform, but write a new opening hook, since that is the whole point of recycling instead of duplicating. Match length and tone to the destination platform: short and punchy for X, longer and more narrative for LinkedIn, caption style for Instagram. Never ship copy identical to the original.
Schedule the rewritten posts with Hootsuite Schedule Message, spread across the coming four weeks so no two land on the same day and the cadence looks natural. Send each one to the social profile it originally performed on, unless the rewritten copy clearly suits another connected profile as well. Scheduling a single message to several profiles creates a separate message per profile, each with its own ID, so capture every ID that comes back.
Finally, log every recycled post to the Airtable recycling log with Airtable Create Records, capturing the original post, its original publish date and engagement, the new copy, the target social profile, the Hootsuite message ID, and the scheduled date. Airtable accepts up to 10 records per create call, so batch accordingly. The log is the source of truth for next month's dedupe check, so write it even if a scheduling call fails partway and mark which posts did not get scheduled.
Finish with a short summary of what was recycled and where it was scheduled, what was skipped for being time sensitive, and what was blocked by the six month rule.
What does this prompt do?
- Looks back over the last 90 days of published posts and ranks them by the engagement they actually earned, comparing each post against its own profile rather than one raw leaderboard.
- Picks only the handful genuinely worth running again, skipping anything tied to a date, an event, a launch, or a season.
- Checks your recycling log first, so nothing that already went out in the past six months gets repeated.
- Rewrites every winner with a fresh opening and the right length for each platform, schedules them across the coming four weeks, and logs each one so next month's run knows what is off limits.
What do I need to use this?
- A Hootsuite account with your social profiles connected, on a plan that includes post analytics.
- An Airtable base with a recycling log table holding the original post, the new copy, the social profile, and the scheduled date.
- At least 90 days of published posts, so there is enough history to rank.
How can I customize it?
- Change the lookback window, how many posts get recycled each month, or the day the run happens.
- Widen or shorten the six month cooling off period before a post becomes eligible again.
- Choose which social profiles are included and how far apart the recycled posts are spaced.
