Turn competitor AI search wins into weekly content briefs

Every Monday, find the AI answers where your competitors show up and you do not, then get three ready to work content briefs filed as tickets.

Every Monday at 7am, mine Profound for the AI prompts where my competitors get mentioned and I do not, then turn each gap into a content brief that is ready to work.

Start in Profound with the List prompts operation to get the tracked prompt set for my category, following the cursor if the prompts run past a single page. Then use Query Answers V2 to pull the raw model answers for those prompts over the past week, including the mentions and citations on each answer so you can see which brands were named and which pages the model pointed to.

Go through the answers and find every prompt where a competitor brand appears in the mentions and my brand is absent. Rank those gaps by how often the gap recurs across different models, since a question that every model answers without me is a bigger problem than a single miss. Take only the top three so we ship rather than drown. The cap is a real business rule, and it also keeps the run inside Profound's limit of 600 requests per hour.

Before creating anything for a gap, use Linear's Search Issues operation to look for an existing open issue covering the same prompt or topic. If one already exists from a previous run, skip that gap and move on to the next ranked one, so repeat weeks do not fill the backlog with duplicates.

For each remaining gap, create the brief in Google Docs. Create Document only makes a blank document with a title, so write the body in a follow up Batch Update Document call. The brief should cover the prompt itself, what the AI answers today, which pages it currently cites, and the specific angle and page we would need in order to win that answer.

Then file a Linear issue for each brief with Create Issue. Title it after the gap, link the Google Doc in the description, and note which competitor is winning the answer and how many models showed the gap, so whoever picks the ticket up knows why it matters before they open the doc.

Example output

Brief 1 of 3: "best project management software for agencies" Gap recurrence: 4 of 5 models named a competitor. None named us. Competitors winning this answer: Asana, Monday What the AI answers today: models describe Asana as the default choice for agencies and lean on two roundup posts plus a Reddit thread for the recommendation. Pages it cites now: - theagencyguide.com/best-pm-tools - reddit.com/r/agency - monday.com/solutions/agencies Angle we would need: we have no page targeting agencies specifically. Publish a comparison page built around agency billing and client portals, the two features these answers repeatedly call out and that we already support. Filed as MKT-412, doc linked.

What does this prompt do?

  • Checks the AI prompts you already track for your category every Monday morning
  • Finds the answers where a competitor brand gets named and yours does not, then ranks the gaps by how often the same gap repeats across different AI models
  • Writes a content brief for the top three gaps, covering what the AI says today, which pages it points to, and the angle you would need to win the answer
  • Files each brief as a ticket linked to the doc, and skips any gap that already has an open ticket from a previous week

What do I need to use this?

  • A Profound account on the Enterprise plan, with your brand, your competitors, and your category prompts already set up
  • A Google account so the briefs can be written into Google Docs
  • A Linear workspace and the team you want the tickets filed to
  • The list of competitor brand names you want to measure yourself against

How can I customize it?

  • Change the day and time. Monday at 7am lines up with a weekly planning cycle, but any schedule works.
  • Raise or lower the three brief cap depending on how much content your team can realistically ship in a week.
  • Narrow the scope to one topic, region, or audience so the briefs stay focused on the part of your market you care about most.
  • Point the tickets at a different Linear team, or set a priority so they land where your writers actually look.

FAQs

What counts as a gap?
A gap is an AI answer where at least one of the competitor brands you listed gets mentioned and your brand does not appear at all. The more models that show the same gap on the same question, the higher it ranks, because a question every model answers without you is a bigger problem than a one off.
Why only three briefs a week?
Because thirty briefs nobody writes are worth less than three that ship. The cap keeps the output at a pace a normal content team can work through, and you can raise it if your team has the capacity.
Will the same brief get filed again next week?
No. Before filing anything, the workflow checks your existing tickets and skips any gap that already has an open one, so the backlog does not fill up with duplicates as the weeks go by.
Do I need to be tracking competitors in Profound already?
Yes. This reads the prompts and answers Profound already collects for your category, so your brand and the competitors you care about need to be set up there first.
What is actually in each brief?
The question being asked, what the AI answers today, which pages it currently points to, and the specific angle and page you would need in order to win that answer. It is meant to be handed straight to a writer.
