Weekly competitor hiring and tech stack signals in Notion

Every Monday, see which teams your competitors are scaling, what their tech stack reveals, and where their hiring breaks from the market.

Every Monday at 8am, build me a competitive hiring intelligence brief on the companies we compete with. Run this on a weekly cron schedule.

My competitors are [list the competitor company names here] and their websites are [list the matching company domains here]. My sector is [name your industry]. Use those three lists everywhere below.

Start with the JobsPipe Search Job Postings operation, the live one and not the sandbox variant, filtered to those competitor companies and to postings from the trailing 7 days. JobsPipe job records carry a full description field, so wide result pages get large. Keep the result page size modest, ask for a small limit rather than one huge page, and page through using the next cursor returned in the response metadata, stopping when that cursor comes back empty.

Validate the competitor filter values before you trust a zero. In JobsPipe an unrecognized filter value is not an error, it simply matches nothing and returns zero jobs. That means a competitor with no results might be a company name that failed to match rather than a company that stopped hiring. Confirm the name resolves first, then report genuine zeros explicitly. A competitor with no new postings is itself a signal, because a hiring freeze tells us something, so give it its own line in the brief. Never silently drop a competitor from the report.

For each competitor domain, run JobsPipe Scan Domain Technology Stack. These scans are cached for about 14 days, which fits a weekly cadence well. Compare what you find against the stack recorded for that same competitor in earlier briefs, so you can call out technologies that have newly appeared and technologies that have dropped out.

Then pull JobsPipe Get Trending Skills For Industry for my sector and treat those results as the market baseline to measure each competitor against.

Now reason over the raw postings instead of just listing them. For each competitor, work out which teams they are scaling and how fast, what new products, customer segments or geographies the roles imply, which technologies have entered or left their stack, and where their hiring diverges from the industry trend. Treat divergence as the most valuable finding: a competitor hiring hard against a skill the wider market is dropping matters far more than a headcount total. Quote specific job titles as evidence for every claim you make, and say plainly when the evidence is thin rather than overreaching from one posting.

Publish the finished brief as a new page in my Competitive Intelligence database using the Notion Create a Page operation. Title the page with the date range it covers. Lead with the divergences and the hiring freezes, then give a short section per competitor underneath.

Finally, post a three line headline summary to Slack with the Send a Message operation, in [name your Slack channel]. Exactly three lines: the single most significant move any competitor made, the clearest divergence from the industry trend, and any competitor that has gone quiet. Include a link to the Notion page so the team can read the detail.

Additional information

What does this prompt do?
  • Checks every competitor you name for job openings posted in the last seven days, across more than 30 job boards and hiring systems at once
  • Reads the roles rather than just counting them, working out which teams are growing and what new products, customer segments or regions the hiring points to
  • Scans each competitor website for the technology it runs on and flags anything that has newly appeared or quietly disappeared
  • Compares all of it against what your wider industry is hiring for, so you can see where a rival is placing a different bet
  • Files the full brief in your Competitive Intelligence space in Notion and drops a three line summary in Slack
What do I need to use this?
  • A JobsPipe account, which supplies the job posting and company technology data
  • A Notion workspace with a Competitive Intelligence database, shared with your Notion connection
  • A Slack workspace and the channel where the weekly summary should land
  • Your list of competitor company names, their website addresses, and the industry you operate in
How can I customize it?
  • Change when it runs. Monday at 8am is a good default, but any weekly slot works, and you can widen the lookback beyond seven days if your market moves slowly
  • Edit the competitor list at any time, adding new rivals or dropping ones you no longer track
  • Send the headline summary to a different Slack channel, or file the full brief in a different Notion database
  • Tell it which signals matter most to you, for example weighting engineering hires over sales hires, or focusing on one region

FAQs

What happens if a competitor posted no jobs at all last week?
That gets called out on purpose. A hiring freeze is a real signal, often a better one than a busy week, so quiet competitors get named in the brief instead of being dropped from it. The brief also double checks that a competitor name actually matched before reporting a zero, so you do not mistake a spelling mismatch for a freeze.
How is this different from setting up job alerts for competitors?
Job alerts give you a list of links. This reads the postings and tells you what they mean, for example that a rival has started hiring solutions engineers in Germany, which usually points to a new market rather than a routine backfill.
Why does it look at competitor websites as well as their job ads?
Job ads tell you who a company is hiring, and their website technology tells you what they are actually building with. Together they catch shifts a job board alone would miss, like a rival quietly moving off a platform or adopting a new one before they announce anything.
Do I need to be technical to use this?
No. You supply competitor names, their websites, your industry, a Notion database and a Slack channel. Everything else runs on its own and the output is written in plain business language.
What if my competitors post jobs on lots of different sites?
Postings are gathered from more than 30 job boards and applicant tracking systems and combined into one consistent view, with duplicates removed, so you do not have to check each careers page yourself.
