Weekly Facebook Page performance digest to Slack and Sheets
Every Monday morning, get a plain-English recap of your Facebook Page's week in Slack and log the numbers to Google Sheets for month-over-month tracking.
Every Monday at 9am ET, send me a weekly performance digest for my Facebook Page in Slack, and log the numbers to Google Sheets so I can track month over month.
Reporting window: the previous seven days, ending Sunday night in ET.
Data to pull from facebook-pages:
1. Use Get Page Insights to pull Page-level totals for the window: impressions, reach, engagement, and new fans.
2. Use List Published Posts to find every post the Page published during the window.
3. For each of those posts, call Get Post Insights to grab reactions, comments, reach, and video views. Capture the post URL and message so you can reference it in the summary.
Then write a short executive summary in plain English that includes:
- Overall trend versus the previous week (up or down on reach, impressions, engagement, and new fans, with percent change).
- The two or three best performing posts, each with the post URL and a one-line theory for why it worked (topic, format, timing, hook).
- The underperformers and a quick note on what may have hurt them.
- One concrete recommendation for next week's content.
Post the full digest to a Slack channel using slackbot Send a Message. I will tell you which channel when I set this up. Format it as readable Slack markdown with a clear header, the topline metrics, the highlights, and the recommendation. Include clickable post URLs.
In parallel, append a single row to my Google Sheets tracker using Append Values, in this column order: week ending date, impressions, reach, engagement, new fans, top post URL. The header row already exists. Append one row per weekly run so the sheet accumulates a historical trend.
If the Page published zero posts during the window, still send the digest with the Page-level metrics and a note that no new posts went live, and still append the row to Google Sheets with an empty top post URL.
If any of the Facebook, Slack, or Sheets calls fail, retry a couple of times and then send whatever partial digest you can to Slack with a note about what was missing, rather than skipping the week entirely.
Additional information
What does this prompt do?
- Pulls the last seven days of activity on your Facebook Page: reach, impressions, engagement, and new followers.
- Looks at every post that went live in the window and identifies your best and worst performers, with a short theory for why each one landed.
- Posts a plain-English summary to the Slack channel of your choice with the trend versus last week and one recommendation for next week.
- Appends a single row per week to a Google Sheets tracker so your historical performance builds up over time.
What do I need to use this?
- A Facebook Page you manage, connected with permission to read Page insights and posts.
- A Slack workspace and the channel where the weekly digest should land.
- A Google Sheets spreadsheet with a header row for week ending, impressions, reach, engagement, new fans, and top post URL.
How can I customize it?
- Change the schedule if Monday at 9am ET is not when your team reviews social.
- Swap the Slack channel, or send the digest as a direct message instead.
- Add extra columns to the Google Sheet, like video views or comments, and the workflow will fill them in.
