iPhone conversations swipe the way Messages does

In the iPhone app, swiping a conversation now looks and feels like swiping one in Messages. The row lifts into a rounded card that follows your finger, and round buttons grow in from the edge as the card slides past them: Read or Unread on one side, Delete on the other, and Pin and New conversation on a specialist. The lines above and below the row step aside while it moves, and a tap anywhere else in the list puts it back.

How it works

  • Following your finger. The card moves with your finger the whole way, stretches a little past where it opens, and settles at the speed you let go. A quick flick opens it, while a short, slow drag puts it back.
  • Buttons. Each button starts as a dot and grows as the card uncovers it, so the outer button arrives first and the inner one is whole only once the row is fully open.
  • Closing. Tapping the open row, another row, or empty space in the list closes it. A tap on another row only closes the open one rather than opening that conversation, and starting a scroll closes it too.
  • Every list. Conversations, Activity, Specialists, a specialist's conversations, and editing conversations all swipe the same way.
  • Every row answers. A row with no buttons on a side, like a conversation that is still running or a finished run in Activity, still lifts and gives a little that way, then springs back, so you can tell it has nothing there.

Also shipped

  • Rows build their swipe buttons only once you swipe, so long lists carry less while they scroll.
