Workspace names: a different name in each workspace
Your profile name is now a default rather than the only name you have. In any workspace you can set the name the people there see, so you can be "Alex Morgan" at work and "Alex" in a side project, and your profile and other workspaces stay as they are. Owners and admins can set a member's name for them too, which lets a company keep everyone's name in one standard format across the firm, whatever each person typed when they signed up. It works alongside team roles, which also describe people inside one workspace.
How it works
- Set it yourself. Open Settings, then Membership under your workspace, and edit your name there.
- Owners and admins can set anyone's. In Settings, then Members, the menu at the end of a member's row has Edit name, which sets that person's name in this workspace. Members can change only their own.
- One name everywhere in the workspace. The members list, search, sharing and transfer notices, usage reports, the weekly digest, and the people your apps and specialists see all use the workspace name.
- Back to your profile in one step. Use profile name clears the workspace name, and your profile name shows again.
Also shipped
- Your profile name now updates every workspace that hasn't set a name of its own.
