Build me an agent-based workflow that runs a mock IELTS or TOEFL speaking test and emails each candidate an examiner-style feedback report.

Trigger: a Typeform webhook. The form asks the candidate for their name, email, the speaking prompt they were shown (as a hidden field or short-answer question), and an audio upload of their spoken answer. When Typeform sends the submission webhook, the workflow should fire.

On each fire, the agent should do the following.

1. Parse the Typeform payload and pull out the candidate's name, email, the speaking prompt text, and the URL of the uploaded audio file. Download the audio so it can be uploaded to Speechace.

2. Call Speechace "Score Task Achievement" with the speaking prompt and the audio to grade how well the candidate answered the question.

3. Call Speechace "Score Speech (Open-ended, Relevance, Language Detection)" with the same audio and prompt to get transcript plus sub-scores for fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and coherence, along with the IELTS band estimate.

4. Turn the raw Speechace output into a friendly examiner-style feedback report. The report should include: an overall IELTS band estimate cited inline, one short paragraph per sub-skill (task response, fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, coherence) explaining what the candidate did well and what to work on, and two or three concrete study tips tailored to their weakest sub-skill. Keep the tone encouraging and specific. Never invent a numeric band that Speechace did not actually return; if a score is missing, say so.

5. Send the finished report to the candidate using Gmail "Send a Message", addressed to the email captured in the Typeform response. Use their first name in the greeting, put the overall band in the subject line, and format the body as readable HTML with a section per sub-skill.

Only reference bands and scores that Speechace returned. Do not fabricate numbers. If Speechace returns an error (for example the audio was too short, silent, or unintelligible), email the candidate a short, kind note explaining the issue and asking them to retake the test, instead of a full report.

Additional information

What does this prompt do?
  • Listens for new submissions from your Typeform speaking test, including the candidate's name, email, prompt shown, and audio recording.
  • Uses Speechace to grade the response for task achievement, fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and coherence.
  • Turns the raw scores into an encouraging examiner-style report with an overall IELTS band estimate and a paragraph per sub-skill.
  • Emails the candidate their report from your Gmail account with two or three concrete study tips focused on their weakest area.
What do I need to use this?
  • A Typeform account with a speaking-test form that captures name, email, the prompt shown, and a file-upload for the audio answer.
  • A Speechace subscription and API key for the region you signed up in.
  • A Gmail account you can send feedback emails from.
How can I customize it?
  • Swap the IELTS framing for TOEFL, PTE, or CEFR bands, or match the scoring to your own rubric.
  • Adjust the tone of the report, for example strict examiner, encouraging tutor, or short bullet summary.
  • Change who receives the report, for example cc a teacher, admissions team, or hiring manager alongside the candidate.

Frequently asked questions

Do candidates need to install anything to take the test?
No. They fill out your Typeform in the browser, record their spoken answer using the file-upload question, and submit. Everything after that happens automatically.
How accurate is the IELTS band score?
Speechace is designed to approximate IELTS and CEFR scoring for speaking tasks. Treat the band as an indicative practice score to guide study, not an official IELTS result.
Can I use this for TOEFL or PTE instead of IELTS?
Yes. Speechace supports multiple standardized frameworks. Update the prompt to reference TOEFL or PTE bands, and the workflow will map the same underlying scores to the framework you pick.
Will the report make up scores if Speechace does not return one?
No. The agent is instructed to only quote numeric bands that Speechace actually returned. If a sub-score is missing, the report says so instead of inventing a value.
Where do I set the email that the report is sent from?
The report goes out from whichever Gmail account you connect to the workflow. You can change the sender any time by reconnecting a different Gmail account.
