Weather-aware daily dispatch brief for your Jobber crews

Every weekday at 5:30am, your crews get today's schedule in Slack with a rain and wind check on every visit, so you can reschedule before the truck rolls.

Every weekday at 5:30am in my local time zone, before my crews head out, build me a weather aware dispatch brief for the day and post it to Slack. Use a cron trigger rather than anything per visit or event driven, because this is a once a day morning briefing.

Make these configurable inputs: the latitude and longitude of my service area rounded to four decimal places, my time zone, the Slack channel to post to, the rain, wind and temperature thresholds that count as risky, and the list of job or service types I consider weather sensitive.

First pull today's schedule from Jobber. Use List Visits filtered to a start and end that cover today in my time zone. For each visit, use Get Visit to pick up the scheduled start and end times and the assigned team members, and Get Property to pick up the service address and any instructions or notes attached to the property. Use List Users when you need to turn assigned team member ids into readable names.

Then get the weather for my service area. Pass my latitude and longitude to NOAA Weather Get Point Metadata to convert them into forecast grid identifiers, then call Get Hourly Forecast for that grid point and keep only the hours that fall inside today. Also call Get Active Alerts for the same point so I can see severe weather warnings, watches and advisories.

Now judge which visits are genuinely at risk. Overlay the hourly forecast onto each visit's scheduled time window and decide based on the type of work. Exterior painting, roofing, lawn treatment, pressure washing, gutter work and landscaping are at risk when rain, high wind or freezing temperatures land inside that window. Indoor work such as interior repairs, appliance installs and in home service calls should be left alone even when the forecast is bad. Default thresholds: precipitation probability at or above 50 percent, sustained wind at or above 20 mph, or temperature at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit at any point inside the scheduled window. Any active severe weather alert covering the point puts every outdoor visit that overlaps the alert's time range at risk. Infer the type of work from the visit title, the job instructions and the property notes, and when you genuinely cannot tell, treat it as outdoor and say the call is uncertain.

Post one Slack Bot message to my dispatch channel with Send a Message. Put a clearly separated "At risk, consider rescheduling" section at the very top, listing each affected visit with the crew, the time window, the address and the specific reason, for example "11am to 2pm, 80 percent rain, exterior paint". Below that, list the full day grouped by crew, and within each crew in time order, showing the scheduled time, the customer or job name, the service address and a one line weather note for that window. Close with a one line summary of the day's weather and any active alerts.

Never change anything in Jobber. This workflow is read only against Jobber by design: it recommends reschedules and my dispatcher makes the final call on moving a customer. Do not create, update, reschedule or complete visits, and do not message customers.

Handle the edge cases. If there are no visits scheduled today, post a short message saying the schedule is empty instead of a full brief. If a visit has no assigned team member, group it under "Unassigned" so my dispatcher notices it. If nothing is at risk, still post the brief and say the day looks clear. If the latitude and longitude fall outside National Weather Service coverage, post the schedule without risk flags and say that weather data was unavailable for that point.

Example output

⚠️ At risk, consider rescheduling (2) • Crew A, 8:00am to 11:00am, 41 Bayard St, exterior paint, 70 percent rain from 9am • Crew B, 1:00pm to 4:00pm, 88 Oakhill Rd, gutter clean, wind gusts to 28 mph Crew A • 8:00am, 41 Bayard St, exterior paint. Rain likely mid morning. • 12:30pm, 7 Linden Ave, interior trim. Indoors, no weather impact. Crew B • 9:00am, 210 Mill St, lawn treatment. Dry until noon. • 1:00pm, 88 Oakhill Rd, gutter clean. Gusty and wet. Unassigned • 3:00pm, 15 Harbour Way, roof inspection. Clearing after 3pm. Today: showers arriving around 9am, clearing after 3pm. Wind Advisory in effect until 6pm.

What does this prompt do?

  • Pulls every visit scheduled for today out of Jobber, along with the assigned crew, the service address, and the job instructions.
  • Checks today's hour by hour forecast and any active severe weather warnings for your service area.
  • Flags outdoor work like exterior painting, roofing, lawn treatment and gutter cleaning when rain, high wind or freezing temperatures land inside the scheduled time window, and leaves indoor jobs alone.
  • Posts one Slack message grouped by crew and sorted by time, with an "at risk, consider rescheduling" section separated out at the top.

What do I need to use this?

  • A Jobber account with your visits scheduled for the day. Read access is enough, since nothing in Jobber gets changed.
  • A Slack workspace and the channel your dispatcher checks each morning.
  • The latitude and longitude of your service area, roughly the middle of the metro your crews work in.
  • Weather data comes from the US National Weather Service, so this covers the United States only.

How can I customize it?

  • Change the send time, or run it seven days a week instead of weekdays only.
  • Point it at a different Slack channel, for example a crew leads channel instead of dispatch.
  • Adjust what counts as risky: the rain chance, wind speed and temperature limits, and which types of work you treat as weather sensitive.

FAQs

Will this move or cancel anything in my Jobber schedule?
No. It only reads your schedule and recommends what to look at. Nothing is rescheduled, cancelled or edited in Jobber, so your dispatcher always makes the final call on moving a customer.
Does this work outside the United States?
Not today. The forecast and severe weather warnings come from the US National Weather Service, which only covers the United States and its territories. Canadian and international crews are not covered by this data source.
Why does it ask for one latitude and longitude instead of using each job address?
Most home service businesses work a single metro, so one forecast area covers the whole day's route. It also avoids problems when a property record does not have exact coordinates saved on it.
What happens on a day when nothing is at risk?
You still get the brief. The at risk section simply says the day looks clear, so your crews always start from the same morning message.
What if a visit has no crew assigned yet?
It shows up in an "Unassigned" group so your dispatcher spots it while there is still time to staff it.
