Weekly competitor intelligence brief in Notion and Slack

Every Monday morning, get a written brief on what your competitors actually changed last week, filed in Notion with the three biggest moves in Slack.

Every Monday at 7am, research what my competitors changed over the past week and write me a competitive intelligence brief. I will give you the list of competitors to track, and for each one a pricing page URL, a changelog or release notes URL, and a blog URL.

For each competitor, use Hyperbrowser to read those three pages. Use Start Crawl Job on each URL so linked sub-pages are picked up too, and collect the output with Get Crawl Job Result once the job finishes. Then run Start Extract Job over the crawled pages and read the output with Get Extract Job Result, pulling structured facts: plan names with their prices and billing periods, any usage limits or seat caps, newly shipped features with ship dates, and the headline positioning claims each competitor leads with.

Before writing anything, read last week's brief. My competitive intel database in Notion holds one page per week. Use Query a Data Source against that database sorted by date descending, take the most recent page, and read it with Retrieve Page as Markdown. That page is the baseline you compare this week's findings against. If the database is empty because this is the first run, treat this week as the baseline, say so at the top of the brief, and skip the comparison.

This report is about what actually changed, not a restatement of the whole landscape. Compare this week's extracted facts against last week's brief and write up only real movement: price changes, plans added or renamed or retired, changed limits, newly shipped features, and genuine shifts in how a competitor positions itself. Ignore cosmetic edits. Navigation tweaks, restyled buttons, reworded taglines, and blog posts that repackage existing material are noise, so leave them out.

Write this week's brief as a new page in the same Notion database using Create a Page, organized by competitor. Under each competitor give me a What changed section listing the concrete moves, and a short So what section reading why it matters to us. If a competitor made no meaningful changes, say that in one line and move on rather than padding the section to make the page look balanced.

Then use Send a Message to post to my competitive intel Slack channel with the three most significant moves across all competitors, one line each, plus a link to the full Notion page. Rank by how much a move could affect our own pricing or positioning, not by how recent it is. If nothing significant happened anywhere, say that in one line instead of promoting minor items to fill the slots.

Additional information

What does this prompt do?
  • Checks each competitor's pricing page, changelog, and blog every Monday morning and pulls out the concrete facts: plan names, prices, newly shipped features, and the claims they lead with
  • Compares this week against last week's brief so you read what actually moved, instead of the same landscape summary over and over
  • Files a written brief in your Notion competitive intel database, organized by competitor, with a plain-English read on why each change matters
  • Posts the three most significant moves to Slack with a link to the full brief, and skips competitors that did nothing rather than padding the page
What do I need to use this?
  • A Hyperbrowser account for reading competitor websites
  • A Notion workspace with a database where your weekly competitive briefs live
  • A Slack workspace and the channel where your team wants the summary
  • A short list of competitors, each with a pricing page, a changelog or release notes page, and a blog
How can I customize it?
  • Change the day and time it runs, for example Friday afternoon instead of Monday at 7am
  • Add or remove competitors, or point it at extra pages like a careers page or customer stories
  • Adjust what counts as worth reporting, such as only flagging price moves above a certain size
  • Choose which Slack channel gets the summary and how many top moves it lists

FAQs

How does it know what changed if it only looks at websites?
It uses last week's brief in your Notion database as the reference point. Each run reads the most recent brief, compares this week's findings against it, and writes up only the differences. That means you do not need to set up any separate tracking system.
What happens on the very first run when there is no previous brief?
The first run has nothing to compare against, so it writes a baseline brief describing where each competitor stands today and says clearly that it is the starting point. From the second week onward you get proper change reports.
Will it flood the brief with trivial website edits?
No. It is told to ignore cosmetic changes like navigation tweaks, restyled buttons, and reworded taglines that do not change the underlying claim. It reports real movement such as price changes, new or removed plans, changed limits, and newly shipped features.
What if a competitor did not change anything that week?
That competitor gets a single line saying there was nothing meaningful, rather than a padded section. The point is that the brief stays short enough to actually read.
Can I track competitors whose pricing is not published online?
Only partly. If a competitor hides pricing behind a sales call, there is nothing on the page to read, so the brief will cover their changelog and blog instead and note that pricing is not public.
