Build me a weekly competitor intelligence dossier. Trigger on a cron every Monday at 8am in my timezone.

Take a configured list of competitor names and primary domains from the workflow inputs. For each competitor on the list, run Octen AI Deep Research scoped to the past 7 days, covering: product launches and feature changes, pricing or packaging updates, leadership and hiring signals, funding or M&A news, and notable press coverage. Pass each competitor's name and domain into the research query so Octen anchors on the right entity rather than a same-named company.

Then use Google Docs Create Document to spin up a fresh weekly dossier titled with the date range, for example "Competitor Dossier: Jun 9 to Jun 15, 2026". Then use Google Docs Batch Update Document to write a structured report into that new doc, in this order:

1) A top-of-doc executive summary, 3 to 5 sentences, that calls out the single most important move across the whole competitor set this week and why it matters to us.

2) One section per competitor. Use the competitor's name as the section heading. Under it, use subheadings for each signal category (Product, Pricing, People, Funding and M&A, Press). Under each subheading, write 1 to 3 short bullets in plain prose with inline citations linking back to the original sources Octen returned. If a category had nothing this week for that competitor, omit the subheading rather than print an empty one.

3) A closing "So what" paragraph synthesizing the implications for our positioning: where competitors are pulling ahead, where they are slipping, and the one thing we should consider doing differently this coming week.

Suppress competitors that returned no signals at all across every category, so the dossier stays readable. If every competitor came back empty, post a short Slack note that says so and skip creating the doc.

Once the doc is written, use Slack Bot Send a Message to post to the marketing channel: a one-line intro with the Google Doc link, then exactly three bullets calling out the biggest moves of the week. Keep the Slack message short. It is a teaser for the full dossier, not a replacement.

Workflow inputs to expose: the competitor list as name plus domain pairs, the Slack channel ID for the highlights, an optional Google Drive folder ID to drop the dossier into, and my timezone for the cron.

Additional information

What does this prompt do?
  • Runs Octen AI deep research on each competitor every Monday, scoped to the past 7 days across product launches, pricing changes, leadership moves, funding news, and press coverage.
  • Publishes a fresh Google Doc each week with an executive summary, a structured section per competitor, source citations, and a closing read on what the moves mean for your positioning.
  • Posts a short Slack message to your marketing channel with the doc link and three highlights, so the team catches the big moves before they open the dossier.
  • Skips competitors with no real signal that week so the dossier stays useful, not noisy.
What do I need to use this?
  • An Octen AI account for the weekly research runs
  • A Google account with permission to create Google Docs
  • A Slack workspace and the channel you want the highlights posted to
  • A short list of competitor names and websites you want tracked
How can I customize it?
  • Change the day or time the dossier runs, like Friday afternoons before the weekly review
  • Adjust the signal categories, for example swap leadership hires for analyst coverage or community sentiment
  • Point the Slack highlight at a different channel, or send it as a DM to leadership instead

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a regular news scrape?
The dossier is not just headlines. Octen's deep research runs multiple rounds of sourcing per competitor, and the Google Doc closes each week with a so-what read on how the moves affect your positioning.
What if a competitor had nothing worth reporting that week?
Quiet competitors get skipped automatically so the dossier stays short. The doc only includes competitors with real signal that week.
Can I add or change competitors later?
Yes. The competitor list is a workflow input you can edit at any time. The following Monday's run picks up the change.
Where does the Google Doc get saved?
In the Google Drive of the connected Google account. Each week creates a brand new doc titled with the date range, so you can scroll back through the archive.
Will the Slack post be too long for a busy channel?
No. It is a short link plus three bullets, designed for skimming. The full dossier lives in the Google Doc.
