Weekly GoCardless collections brief posted to Slack
Every Monday, get a plain-language rundown of last week's GoCardless payments and payouts posted straight to your finance Slack channel.
Every Monday at 8am, generate a written finance brief on how our GoCardless collections went over the last seven days and post it to our finance channel in Slack. Write it in plain language for a non-technical finance audience, with the headline numbers at the top and this week compared with the prior week.
Pull the source data from GoCardless. Use List Payments and List Payouts, filtered by created_at to the last seven days (last Monday through Sunday). To support the week-over-week comparison, also pull the seven days immediately before that window. Page through all results so nothing is missed, since these lists are cursor-paginated.
GoCardless returns monetary amounts as integers in the smallest currency unit (pence, cents), never decimals. Divide by 100 to convert to normal currency and label the currency in the brief (for example, 12500 becomes GBP 125.00). Apply this conversion everywhere an amount appears.
Summarize the collections from List Payments. Report the total amount collected, how many payments were successfully paid out versus how many failed or were cancelled, and call out the largest failed or cancelled payments worth chasing this week. For the failures, list the top few by amount with the customer or payment reference and the failure reason so someone can follow up.
From List Payouts, report the net amount that actually landed in our bank account through payouts over the window. Payout amounts already reflect what was transferred after deductions, so summing them gives the money that can be reconciled against the bank statement.
Structure the brief so the headline numbers come first (total collected, net paid out to the bank, and number of failed or cancelled payments), then a short this-week-versus-last-week section showing the change in each figure, then the list of failures worth chasing. Keep it concise and readable.
Post the finished brief to our finance channel in Slack using Send a Message, sent as the workspace bot. Format it with Slack markup (bold headline numbers, bullet lists) so the key figures stand out at a glance.
