Every Monday at 9:00am in my local timezone, run a weekly Instagram performance digest and post it into a Slack channel I will choose. Trigger is a cron schedule.

Step 1. Pull the account-level roll-up for the last 7 days using Instagram Get Account Insights. I want reach, impressions, profile views, and follower growth for the trailing 7 days, plus the same 7-day window from the prior week so we can compute week-over-week deltas.

Step 2. Use Instagram List Media to enumerate every post, reel, and carousel I published in the last 7 days. For each one, call Instagram Get Media Insights to fetch per-post metrics: reach, likes, saves, shares, and plays (for reels). Also capture the media type, caption, permalink, and thumbnail URL so we can link back to the post in Slack.

Step 3. Have the agent synthesize the numbers into a written brief. The brief should include: (a) a headline paragraph with this-week vs last-week deltas on reach, impressions, profile views, and follower growth (with arrows and percentages); (b) the top 3 posts of the week ranked by engagement rate (saves + shares + comments + likes divided by reach), each with a one-sentence 'why it worked' analysis grounded in the actual numbers and caption; (c) the worst 1 to 2 posts with a candid one-sentence diagnosis of why they underperformed; (d) 2 to 3 concrete content bets to try next week, phrased as actual ideas ("try a carousel breaking down last week's launch") not platitudes.

Step 4. Deliver the brief to Slack using Slack Bot Send a Message. Format the message with Slack mrkdwn: use *bold* for section headers, bulleted lists for the top and worst posts, and inline links back to each highlighted post using the permalink from Instagram (<permalink|caption snippet>). If any highlighted post has a thumbnail, unfurl or reference it so the message is scannable at a glance. The recipient channel should be a workflow input the user picks at connect time.

Notes for the agent: Only Instagram Business or Creator accounts expose insights, so surface a clean error if the connected account is personal. If there were zero posts in the last 7 days, still send the digest with the account-level numbers, note the empty publishing week, and pull content bets from the prior 2 to 3 weeks instead. Keep the tone crisp and analytical, not hype. Never invent numbers; if a metric is missing from the API response for a given media type (e.g. no 'plays' on a static image), just omit it for that post.

Additional information

What does this prompt do?
  • Pulls last week's Instagram numbers automatically: reach, impressions, profile views, and follower growth for the account, plus per-post reach, likes, saves, shares, and plays for every post, reel, and carousel from the last 7 days.
  • Compares this week to last week and writes a plain-English brief with the top 3 posts, the 1 to 2 worst, a short reason each one landed the way it did, and 2 to 3 concrete content ideas to try next.
  • Posts the brief straight into your Slack channel every Monday at 9am, formatted with headers and thumbnail links back to the posts being discussed.
  • Replaces the Monday morning ritual of copy-pasting numbers out of Meta Business Suite into a doc no one reads.
What do I need to use this?
  • An Instagram Business or Creator account (personal Instagram accounts do not expose insights).
  • The Instagram account connected to a Facebook Page you manage.
  • A Slack workspace and the channel you want the recap posted to.
  • About one minute to connect Instagram and Slack the first time.
How can I customize it?
  • Change the day and time. Monday 9am is the default, but you can run it Friday afternoon for a week-in-review or Sunday night to prep the week.
  • Swap the Slack channel, or send it to multiple channels (creators in one, exec team in another).
  • Adjust the tone of the recap. Ask for a blunt diagnostic, a hype-forward creator voice, or an executive summary depending on who reads it.
  • Change the window. Run a rolling 14-day comparison, or extend the top-posts list from 3 to 5 if you post daily.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work with a personal Instagram account?
No. Instagram only exposes analytics for Business or Creator accounts that are linked to a Facebook Page. If you are on a personal account, switch to a Creator account in the Instagram app first (it is free and takes about 30 seconds).
Can I post the recap to more than one Slack channel?
Yes. Tell the workflow which channels you want it in, and it will post the same brief to each. Common setups are one channel for the social team and a second summarized version for leadership.
What if we did not post anything last week?
The recap still runs. It will report the account-level numbers, note that there were no new posts to analyze, and suggest content bets based on the last few weeks of performance instead of the last 7 days.
How is this different from the built-in Meta Business Suite report?
Meta gives you raw numbers in a dashboard nobody opens. This drops a written brief with judgement (why the top post worked, why the flop flopped, what to try next) into the channel your team already lives in, every Monday, without anyone remembering to check.
Can I change what counts as a top post?
Yes. The default ranks by engagement rate, but you can rank by saves, shares, reach, or a custom mix. Just tell the workflow what matters most to your team.

Stop copy-pasting Instagram numbers into a doc no one reads.

Connect Instagram and Slack once, and Geni drops a written weekly performance brief into your channel every Monday at 9am.
