Weekly intelligence brief on public companies in your pipeline
Every Monday, we check the news on every publicly traded account in your pipeline, file what matters onto the record, and rank the five to call first.
Every Monday at 7:00am, build a weekly intelligence brief on the publicly traded companies sitting in my HubSpot pipeline.
Start with HubSpot Search Companies to pull the accounts that have a stock ticker stored on the company record. The ticker normally lives in a custom property, something like ticker or stock_symbol, so let me configure which property holds it. Scope the search to accounts I actually care about, for example companies tied to an open deal or an active lifecycle stage. Any company without a ticker should be skipped silently rather than treated as an error. Only a minority of a typical pipeline is publicly traded, so a small result set here is expected, not a bug.
For each ticker, query Finnhub three ways: Company News for the past seven days, Basic Financials for the headline metrics, and Recommendation Trends for analyst sentiment and how it has shifted recently.
Then read each account's news and judge what actually matters to a seller rather than summarizing everything. Things that matter: a guidance cut or an earnings miss, which signals budget scrutiny and longer approval cycles; an acquisition or merger, which signals new buying centers and integration spend; an executive change in the function I sell into, which means the champion may be gone; layoffs or restructuring, which put headcount-based deals at risk; expansion, a major product launch, or new funding, which signal fresh budget. Use the financial metrics and the analyst trend as supporting context for the judgement, not as the headline. If nothing material happened for an account this week, skip it entirely and write nothing for it.
For every account that clears that bar, write the summary back into the CRM with HubSpot Create Note associated to that company, so the rep sees it on the record. Keep the note short and useful: what happened, why it matters for this deal, and a suggested next move. Include a link to the source article so the rep can read further.
Finally, rank the accounts that had material news by how urgent and actionable they are, take the top five, and post a single digest to the sales channel with Slack Bot Send a Message so the team knows who to call first. Each entry should name the company and ticker, give the one-line trigger, and say why to call now. Open the digest by making it explicit that this brief covers only the public companies in the pipeline, so nobody reads it as a full account review. If no account had material news, post a short note saying it was a quiet week rather than posting nothing.
A couple of practical notes. Finnhub's free tier allows 60 calls per minute, so pace the requests when the account list is long. If a ticker returns no data or a plan-restricted response, skip that account quietly and carry on with the rest.

Additional information
What does this prompt do?
- Finds the accounts in your CRM that have a stock ticker saved on the company record, so you only monitor the companies that actually have public news to track.
- Reads last week's news for each one alongside headline financials and analyst sentiment, then judges what matters to a seller: a guidance cut that signals budget scrutiny, an acquisition that opens new buying centers, an executive change that means your champion is gone.
- Writes a short summary onto the company record so the rep sees the context where they already work, instead of watching it scroll away in a chat channel.
- Posts a ranked list of the top five accounts to your sales channel on Monday morning so the team knows who to call first.
- Stays quiet about accounts where nothing material happened, so the brief is signal rather than a weekly news dump.
What do I need to use this?
- A HubSpot account where your companies live, with the stock ticker stored on the company record. A custom field called something like Ticker or Stock Symbol is the normal approach.
- A Finnhub account for the market data. The news, headline financials, and analyst ratings this uses are all available on their free plan.
- A Slack workspace and a channel where the weekly digest should land.
How can I customize it?
- Change the day and time. Monday at 7am lands before the week starts, but any schedule works.
- Choose which accounts get watched: every company with a ticker, or only those in an open deal stage, above a deal size, or owned by a particular rep.
- Raise or lower the bar for what counts as material news, and change how many accounts make the Slack digest.
- Point the digest at a different channel, or send it to each account owner directly instead of one shared channel.
