Weekly social competitor benchmark brief posted to Slack
Every Monday morning your team gets a ranked read on how your social numbers stack up against the competitors you already track, plus two things to try.
Every Monday at 9am, post a competitive benchmark brief to Slack comparing my brand against the competitors I already track in Metricool.
Start by resolving my Metricool brand id. Call Get Admin Simple Profiles and use the blogId for my brand on every later Metricool call. If I have more than one brand, use the one I name when I set this up.
Then get the competitor set. Call Stats Influencers Refresh first so the numbers are current, then call Get Stats Influencers Provider for the past seven days to pull my tracked competitors and their metrics for that window. This workflow depends on me having already added competitors in Metricool. If Get Stats Influencers Provider comes back with an empty set, say so plainly in the Slack message and stop rather than inventing a comparison.
Next pull my own numbers for exactly the same seven day window using Get Stats Instagram Posts, Get Stats Instagram Reels and Get Stats Facebook Posts.
Then pick up topic signal with Get Hashtags Trendings and Get Explore Trend, so the brief can connect performance to what was actually trending that week.
Now do the analysis. Rank the tracked competitors by follower growth and by engagement over the window, and say who moved most and by how much. Identify the specific competitor posts that outperformed anything I published in the same window, naming or linking each one. Describe the content formats driving their lift, such as reels, carousels, stories, static images or long captions, and the themes those posts share. Set that against my own best and worst performers for the week.
Do not just dump a leaderboard. Interpret the field and judge which differences actually matter. Discount noise from a single viral outlier or from a competitor with a far larger following, and concentrate on gaps my team could realistically close. Close the brief with exactly two concrete things my team should try this week, each one tied to specific evidence from the data above.
Send the finished brief to my Slack channel using Slack Bot's Send a Message. Format it with Slack mrkdwn and lead with a short headline summary, so it is useful at a glance without anyone expanding a thread.
What does this prompt do?
- Ranks the competitors you already track by follower growth and engagement for the past week, so you can see who actually moved and by how much.
- Calls out the specific competitor posts that beat anything you published, and names the content formats and themes behind the lift.
- Reads trending topics and hashtags alongside the numbers, so the comparison reflects what audiences were actually interested in that week.
- Finishes with two concrete things your team should try this week, then posts the whole brief to the Slack channel you choose.
What do I need to use this?
- A Metricool account with competitors already added to your brand. This brief compares you against the competitor list Metricool keeps for you, so if that list is empty there is nothing to benchmark against.
- A Metricool plan that includes data export access, which is available on their Advanced and Custom plans.
- Your Instagram and Facebook accounts connected to Metricool, since the brief weighs your own posts and reels against theirs.
- A Slack workspace and a channel where the Monday brief should land.
How can I customize it?
- Which competitors to include. Benchmark against your full tracked list, or narrow it to the handful of direct rivals you actually care about.
- The day and time. Monday at 9am is the default, but any weekly slot works just as well.
- The comparison window. Compare week over week, or against a rolling four week average to smooth out one off viral posts.
