Deliverable PDFs look the same in every PDF viewer
A deliverable exported as PDF now looks the way it does on screen, whichever app opens it. Before, a deck that looked right in Chrome could show its shadows as gray boxes in Preview and Safari, stretch gradients inside faded elements, or fill gradients with solid pink in Firefox. We tested exports against six PDF engines and changed the export until each one draws every page like the browser does.
How it works
- Shadows keep their blur. Card, text, and inset shadows used to fail in Apple's PDF engine, which Preview, Safari, Mail, and iOS share. They now render soft everywhere.
- Gradients draw in every viewer. Fades to transparent, conic gradients, and repeating stripes are written in forms every viewer supports, and gradients inside see-through or masked elements stay the right size.
- Frosted glass prints. Elements with a blurred backdrop used to print with no blur at all. The export now captures each one as it looks on screen.
- Real fonts, embedded. Text is embedded as the actual font in each weight, so it stays crisp when zoomed and outlined text keeps its outline in Firefox.
- Emoji and Chinese, Japanese, and Korean text print with their own glyphs instead of empty boxes.
Also shipped
- Exported PDFs are smaller, since fonts are embedded once per weight.
